Author 'D.marsim' (Id 244103 ) : It would seem that in the past, the monks of Stavelot were in the habit of participating with the Stavelotains the festivities of the carnival. Following an edict of the prince-abbot, G. Manderscheidt in 1499, this practice was prohibited.
The Stavelotains who relished the presence of the monks, at their celebration, renâclèrent to this ban and decided to make a mockery of it in their own way. Then, using their imagination, they created a white suit with a hood, reminiscent of the more quietly the habit of the monastic... They added to disguise a strange mask, impersonal, with a very long red nose and sharp : the Blancs-Moussis were born !
