4001 Apollo butterfly

Author 'GAUDE J-M' (Id 121196 ) : Today, we have heat requires hiking in the woods, so no scenery but few butterflies still agitated. I like the Apollo that can easily be found in our Southern Alps between 1000 and 2000 meters. This is a protected species in France because it is in decline, with a wingspan of 70 mm, its wings have several black spots on white background. The wings have two red eyespots ringed with black and white pupils. The color red is more pronounced in ventral. This photo is made at 1350 meters in the Champsaur.

1: The creamy white spotted with black and red spots outlined in black and the edge of the wings are much darker in this charming butterfly 'Apollo' (Parnassius apollo) installed on the purple thistle flower. Nice pic: Gaude Jm Bravo and thank you. 3:

Is this side Molines en Champsaur? A few years ago, they were very numerous, for a rare species, I was surprised. There would always be the same, so much the better, and thank you for this picture makes me want to go back because at that time was to slide and I think a better year now digital. Too bad the background is so far, I think he does not pull off enough. It is not quite the edge of the wings must be translucent.

A blur on the head, probably because it was moving at the time of shooting. Thank you for the explanations on the Apollo.

Beautiful specimen that had the good idea to ask on a thistle colored box to accommodate its whiteness. 3:
