Author 'Charly' (Id 122846 ) : Castelnou is a small village among the most beautiful villages of France, near Perpignan. It is dominated by a castle of the tenth century which was restored in the late nineteenth century. Castelnou (New Castle) was the seat of the Viscounts Castelnou and stormed by the troops of Jacques II of Mallorca in 1286 and 1483. The church of Sainte-Marie Mercadal, center, dates from the early thirteenth century. Castelnou tower (right) was part of the defense system of the village.
