Author 'Ninik' (Id 56764 ) : Braine-l'alleud (Belgium) Lion's Mound.
It is generally called the 'Lion of Waterloo' but it is in reality on the commune of Braine-l'alleud, only 500m from Waterloo. If the battle fought there in 1815 between Napoleon's army and allies, has been called the battle of Waterloo, it is because the peace agreement was signed at Waterloo, in the house that is now the Wellington Museum, where the Duke of Wellington had his headquarters. Currently major works are underway to improve the site but when it will be warmer, I will see if I have the courage to climb the many stairs to give you a view from above and see the lion up close.

I know this place because I was doing my shopping in a supermarket not so far from this historic place. Nice picture, but damage to the sky.

It seems to me that some are more familiar with the LION that I (who am not a native of this region). I climb 2 times but there are more than 40 years ! It is true that one sees far enough, because it is the 'dreary plain' spoken of by Victor Hugo. 226 stairs ? It will take me good 2 hours for the climb... But I will try.

This 'Lion of Waterloo' is erected on an impressive mound of earth 290. 485m3 ! After a little verification there's 226 steps to climb... Beautiful ascension certainly with a magnificent panoramic view and splendid landscape : bravo and thank you.

Finally here is our lion of Waterloo which, it is true, is found more on the town of Braine l'alleud, then the Fan how you find it, it is true it is not as imposing as that of Belfort, but he has the outfit, I've already climbed the stairs, there are 226 steps if my memories are good. Ninick of the beautiful time I hope you get the opportunity to climb to the top. Who knows ? You can climb the stairs together

There is a little too much foreground, this mound must not be easy to take. The sky was not with you, but thank you for this photo-documented by his presentation.

I didn't know at all, rather impressive, it looks like a pyramid with the lion that dominates, thank you for the course.

We have the station of 'Lion', we have the gare d'austerlitz, but the Waterloo station does not exist. Ah, those French, they do not like to lose. Thank you for your little course history and to this beautiful monument.
