Author 'Chtivenol' (Id 119483 ) : The Basilica of Our Lady of Fourviere dominates the city of Lyon from the top, overlooking the city, on the site of the ancient Forum of Trajan (Forum Vetus, hence the name Fourviere). Its neo-Gothic style architecture is the work of Pierre Bossan. She became a symbol of the city viewed from abroad. In 1168 a chapel was built by Olivier de Chavannes Fourviere, canon of St. Johns on the ruins of the Roman forum. The small chapel, dedicated first to St. Thomas and then to the Virgin, has been the destruction and rebuilding. The form we know today dates from 1740 and its last renovation in 2008.
