) : The carnival of Binche is one of the oldest carnivals in Belgium. It was recognized in 2003 by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. The main characters are the Gilles, who dance to the sound of the traditional tunes of the carnival, the sounds that are played by a small band consisting of brass instruments, drums, and a bass drum.
