Black redstart in the tree

Author 'GAUDE J-M' (Id 246002 ) : In August the birds are secretive, difficult to observe and to photograph, it is for this reason that I propose to you this shot of the beginning of July. This black redstart female is photographed in the southern alps and on the village of Pierrevert.

Read the link submitted in link. The summer of 2018 has been tough for the birds of Western Europe : they have had to endure high temperatures and drought that have reduced their water resources, and food, and some have had to deal with the spread of the emerging virus Usutu, native to southern Africa and is transmitted by mosquitoes. It affects especially the passerines and in particular the blackbird (Turdus merula). Sick individuals are weakened and move much or seem disoriented, and they usually die in a few days. This article ties in with the idea that I was doing during my most recent observations in Belgium.

It is true that this year the birds in Belgium seem to have been affected by a disease. Bravo for your photo.

Very beautiful photo of this little bird, well-lit, in contrast with the scenery more bleak.
