Author 'Pgarnier' (Id 68922 ) : The tragopans are large pheasants, quite heavy. If the females have a plumage modest dominant brown, like many of faisanes, on the other hand males have a livery stunning, predominantly red, fawn, brown, black, with numerous small white spots, or grey. In addition, they boast a short crest, 2 horns, fleshy (they are nicknamed 'pheasants cornus') and a large bib or a caruncle of the throat. All of these ornaments are made during the season of romance, which adds to the enthusiasm of breeders for this bird. During the parade, 2 horns, fleshy (which are normally at rest) stand above the head and reach 5 to 8 cm.

The origin of tragopan comes from the Greek, pointing to the goat and Pan who is the god of shepherds. These are the small horns that earned him this name. The tragopan satyr was once known as pheasant, horned. A native of the Himalayas, northern Burma and southern China, are fairly large pheasants, of which the male has delivered magnificent(here on this photo), the females themselves have a plumage brown, most modest, most self-effacing. Beautiful shot documentary, well net.
