Author 'D.marsim' (Id 145747 ) : Jean-Baptiste Van Helmont originating in the Spanish Netherlands was born in Brussels in 1577 and died in 1644. He wrote all his works in Latin. He discovered carbon dioxide and the role of gastric juice in digestion. He had the great merit of establishing a bridge between alchemy and chemistry. This monument is located on the Place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains.
