Butterfly phalere bucephale

Author 'Isabelle S.B' (Id 197125 ) : Hello,
This small moth is the phalère bucéphale. From what I've read, this is a butterfly very common in France. Still, should the spot because he has a gift of mimicry which is very thorough. It looks like a small piece of branch, cut and bevel. There, before flying to spend the afternoon in a gathering, he (s) forestay (on) t on a wall and the illusion was perfect. When he is on the birch tree, which he was so fond, it must be impossible to spot. I took the eyecup in order to see the 'boiling' and it looks like a little lion. Has the right, at the bottom, it is a couple busy

It is curious that butterfly. I didn't know him. You will not see it on the wall or on the trunk of the birch tree. Fortunately, he has chosen a support more colorful. Thank you for the show and thank you for this beautiful montage Isabelle.

This butterfly looks like a small branch. It is amazing how nature does things well. Thus, in the eyes of its enemies, it goes completely unnoticed.
Your presentation and your editing is super interesting Isa.
Well seen !

a great discovery and imaging of these butterflies. The camouflage pattern is striking. Thank you for making us discover this natural phenomenon.

> Charly [G] [P] [C] [B] [F] >Reply Jul 24, 2013
On the flower the camouflage is not very effective, but on the ground it is perfect. Even the couple fades into the background, which would have had to preserve their privacy if you hadn't been there.
Nice editing to photo wildlife.
