It is beautiful this kingfisher and yes it is the ongoing struggle, especially for a perch for strategic monitoring.

Bravo ! Because it is a bird which has the wanderlust. In passing, those that are interested, be aware that the Hulotte made 2 n° special on the life of the kingfishers. Remarkable. The photo is beautiful even if it may lack a bit of sharpness on the head... ?

Very hard to take in the movement. Where the beauty of the scene.
Did you use a doubler lens, or is this your 120-400 to the maximum ?

Beautiful position and well fixed despite a slow speed vis-à-vis your focal length. You were on foot ?

Hello Francis, and thank you for your comment.
No, not foot, but it is just like. I was in my car, AFN perfectly propped up on the window glass down, to within a dozen yards of martin. I had previously made the map in the manual on the perch, the AF being inactive with the doubler.
Aperture priority Mode and
ISO
locked to 200 because the 600D does not give good results at 800
ISO
. I had the chance of a good raking light in the middle of the afternoon...
Thank you again and good day

This shot is remarkable and I can well imagine the qualities required to achieve it. I am surprised by the rendering of the doubler with a sigma 120-400, I've got one and I have never dared to add a multiplier. After a lot of comments that I've read on the forums it was a disaster-level rendering, it seems that you prove the opposite !

for this shoot, which freezes the body of the bird while maintaining the movement of the wings. You can even see a tiny drop of water clinging to the plumage.
The coupling with a doubler seems to give good results with your Sigma.

Thank You Charly,
Yes, it works well, but focus in manual imperative with the doubler, which is a drawback for those who do not have the habit...
Anyway, I'm still working in the map manually with this lens, doubler or not, because from 300 mm AF becomes random with my 600D, which is not fast enough...

Yes, but the previous photo tells us that he had swallowed the fish
. Beautiful colors on a beautiful bockeh ; the blur of the wings opposite to the sharpness of the body reflects the movement and one can imagine that there's going to be something. Very nice picture
