) : : 4: Capybara (hydrochaeris bydrochaeris), also called the capybara in Guyana is the largest of all rodents. Excellent swimmers, capybaras jump into the water when they feel threatened. Submerged, they travel long distances. As the hippos, they go back to breathe the water's edge, barely visible, only flush the eyes, ears and nostrils, placed at the top of the head. "Capybara" comes from the word "Capivara" which means "lord of the plains" in the Guarani Indian language. They were photographed at the water's edge, when I stepped over the small electric fence that separated us, and they do not even worry about my approach and continued their leisurely nap in the shade. : 13:
