The depth of field is the zone of sharpness between the foreground and the background. It refers to the area of sharpness around the focus distance of your subject.
On your APN, you will find : AV or A.

Personally, I often work in aperture priority. That is to say, on my camera. I rule this one in terms of what I want to get net in the scene of my future photo.

It is necessary that you know this : the more the diaphragm is closed, the greater the depth of field is important, and conversely, the more open and the dof is reduced.
Ex : It is like your eye, it closes when there is too much sun, and it opens when there are little !

The numbers f/ the lowest correspond to the positions the more open the diaphragm, and conversely, the higher numbers correspond to the positions the more closed the diaphragm.

Ex : f1. 8 ; f2. 8 ; f3. 5 ; f5. 6 ; f8 etc...
