Colmars Alps Fortification

Author 'Henri H' (Id 145010 ) : From Nice and heading Allos, it is a road that brings a lot of surprises. A few tens of kilometers downstream of Allos, you must cross a beautiful city, Colmars ... the Alps. Dating from the fourteenth century, this medieval town was fortified over time. But it was under Louis XIV and Vauban fortifications know it today. The two forts that overlook the city. Fort Dessaix here (northern part of the city) for Fort de France (who's on the south).

: 1: Photo of a mountain fortress. Note the watchtower to the right of the ridge overlooking the small bastion. We also see the embrasures for guns, the culverins and others. Above loopholes for musketry or muskets. Stay tuned for more photos. Regards. Marcel.

Hi Marcel, you are a connoisseur of the buildings of that time, it seems. Congratulations and thank you for your remarks and your way of having put in favorites. Sincerely.

I know of Colmar in Alsace. But this village, I do not know.

: 6: What memories with your beautiful picture! I spent all my childhood holidays, just below, in Beauvezer. You know? And I had fun in the large meadow along the walled city. How I ran between the two forts! Oh, I want to go back! : 4:

Hello Ainsiminilyse. I see you've lived a long time in our beautiful region. I imagine you trying to connect the two forts Colmars the Alps. You had to sleep well at night. I know the village Beauvezer to be practicing a lot of steps: the heritage trails (draperies, Carraire, churches), the grooves St Peter with the stream and the channel. But only in summer or early fall. It remains unique.
