Super photo which also allowed me to explain to my 5 year old daughter that we have observed and photographed in our garden today.

This is a superb photo of this mating grasshoppers, what a great opportunity to see them among the herbs of the same color. Bravo.

The term 'coupling' summed up very well the position of these two grasshoppers, FEI (Bottom-Screen-Image) being devoted to the PHOTOS to which were gradually added RETOUCHING, MONTAGES... For examples...

The identification is not a trivial matter for non-specialists that we are, in general. It is obvious that, in a presentation or a comment, it is not asked for the details of a professional : a ENTOMOLOGIST, an ORNITHOLOGIST, ETC.

Those, who want a lot more details, will find it easily on the INTERNET either by typing the name of the item either by searching from the identification, provided it is fair.

We are more and more numerous to participate to the identifications and this is a big + for photos : BRAVO, THANK you ALL and GOOD SUNDAY.

A scene is rare. But sorry ! These are not eggs, or a coupling to speak of ! The male (top) drops a spermatophore ( a bag of sperm) in the vicinity of the genital organs of the female, which is always held in the vertical (here, insect of the bottom). Little by little, the sperm leave the spermatophore to go fertilize the female, which later will lay its eggs in the ground. The site insect-net is very well documented on the subject. This does not mean that the photo is from the biological point of view interesting.

The morphology of the 2 sexes is very similar, but the female has an ovipositor, the egg-laying organ also referred to as 'oviscapte' or 'ovipositor'. The insect is entirely green, with the exclusion of a band of rust-coloured, female, in the upper one, so...

They mingle with the herbs, but they stand out well. For eggs it may be a little early. Thank you for this document.

This mating of grasshoppers is extraordinary and even more extraordinary, the fact that you've seen. Bravo and thank you.

You'll have to check but I don't think they are eggs that can be seen here (the egg is not yet formed at the coupling) I could be wrong...
