Rome 380 column 11a of the immaculate Piazza Migna
Author 'Ninik' (Id 142103 ) : Column of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of God. Piazza Mignanelli. Rather than present you 5 separate photos, I thought it would be better to make a montage. An ancient Roman column served as the basis for Christian monument in 1800. Pope Pius IX pronounced the dogma of the Immaculate Conception and had placed a statue of the Madonna on top of the column. Since then she has been celebrated on December 8, when a fireman climbs the statue and places a garland of flowers around her. Pius IX once he himself climbed to render homage to the statue. The four statues surrounding the column in the bottom represent Moses, Isaiah, Ezekiel and David.
