Author 'Ninik' (Id 99303 ) : Tamarillos (Solanum betaceum) or tree tomatoes, can reach 4 to 5m high. The fruit, also called tree tomatoes, are shaped like an egg from 5 to 10cm. They can be orange to golden yellow flesh (as here in photo) or burgundy to orange flesh (id-51800). The plant dies from -3 ° C and therefore requires a warm climate. The skin and the immature fruit are toxic, as in most plants of the family Solanaceae. The flesh can be eaten as strawberries with sugar, can make fruit juice or jam. Photo taken on 17-10-2009 in Rio de Moinhos (Esposende) north of Portugal.
