The Leaves And The Fruits Ginkgo

Author 'Mady' (Id 200879 ) : This is the first time that I see the 'fruits' on a ginkgo And for good reason ! These are in fact the eggs, which resemble plums, worn by the female trees, and in the fall, when they start to wrinkle, emit a smell quite foul, so we plant in our gardens and parks, rather male trees that are wearing kittens
There are still a number in a corner of the parc André Citroën in Paris. They just begin to turn yellow, hence the presence on the floor at the time of green leaves and yellow fruit

Wow, this is an opportunity to discover this beautiful photo of fruit which I didn't even know existed. Your mise en scene, the sharpness and the colors are beautiful.

We have one in the park of the Castle, but I didn't know the fruit or the means of reproduction, but the Ginko Biloba is seems to me that it is the only tree that survived the atomic radiation and this tree is extracted from a drug !

I did not know, very interesting your explanation, and the photo, of net, allows you to find these leaves and eggs. A very pretty photo.

Beautiful setting in scene on bottom of bark and leaves. I have learned something . The next time I'm going to the Parc André Citroën, I'll have fun looking for that corner gingko.

I'll give you a hint Lumixane When thou goest to the river Seine, the ginkgo trees are located in the left corner of the park near the Seine river, to the buildings of the Ponant.
Thank you for your visit and your comment
Happy to see you on the site with photos soon I hope

It is a curious plant. I imagine that it takes a male tree and a female tree to make fruit.
Thank you for this discovery Mady

Of course France, the eggs developed on the female tree will be fertilized by pollen produced by the tree male These eggs are not fruits in the usual sense of the term. You can compare the ovule of ginkgo to a hen's egg, which will not give a chick if the hen has been fertilized by the rooster.
The fertilized eggs need to germinate quickly they do not remain as a seed. In the parks we plant male trees obtained from cuttings.
