The car cult of the former Germany of the Is

Author 'Perronnet Catherine' (Id 235685 ) : When you are travelling in Saxony one can not escape the famous Trabant, the car symbol of the German democratic republic. It was, in fact, manufactured at Zwickau, in Saxony, between 1964 and 1990. It 'was carrying' people from one place to another, but without any comfort and with limited security. Some conservatives have even. Here is one.

This Trabi is a Myth for Germany and the countries of the former soviet bloc such as Poland, Hungary, ex-Czechoslovakia and ex-Yugoslavia. It is a small car that sneaks in the city, not very expensive to purchase and maintain. It has been designed for cold countries, so at ease in all circumstances. Bravo Cathy for this shot well done and thank you for the presentation, it is beautiful.

Very simple in effect this car and not very large, but at least the people there were safe and could travel. Thank you for your visit.

It came to me that it is partially built of cardboard. With this gear number of East germans crossed the wall in ' 89. Anyway she has a original air. For my part I prefer the power and the luxury ruffling of the Mercedes SSLK .

We agree on the choice of car then ! I've discussed it with some owners of Trabant in Saxony : they have it all redone and in fact use it for short journeys only. They are, in principle, very well maintained.

I knew absolutely nothing about this car, but I imagine that a cheap car it was interesting to the people of this region at this time.

It was the decision of the communist regime. In reality, people had to wait a very long time to get it after I ordered it, and basic things like the wheel were optional, so had to increase the base price... Thank you for your passage Ninik.

Car worship, in fact, indestructible as built of duroplast, a composite material that does not rust rumored that in 1990 to destroy these thousands of carcasses, which the East germans no longer wanted to it to be necessary to introduce in the body a genetically modified bacteria 'trabicille' thank you Cathy for this photo reminder of a different time

Thank you for your passage and for information on their next to indestructible. As long as I was in Saxony I have not heard about it, but it is possible...

It seems to be in good condition, yet it is necessarily not young this little 'trabi'. Those who still own the talk Thank you, Cathy, for we propose it, the mine will feel less alone on the site

We see no evil in Saxony, as the Trabants were manufactured in Zwickau, where every year takes place a great gathering of these cars symbolic. The owner of one of our rentals was one that he maintained very well. I went to comment on the one you have encountered in Berlin.

It looks like a LADA, nice car with a certain charm despite its flaws. Thank you for the present, pretty cliché.

Yes Guylaine you are right it was a bit the same principle as a car's good market created by the communists. These days it seems tiny and fragile in the streets. These are collectors that have them. Thank you for everything.

Ah the famous 'trabi' that can still be seen in some streets of Berlin and in the museum of the GDR. It took several years of waiting before buying one. You've also met her in a street and you we do enjoy. I like the death's head in close proximity ; maybe we can find a symbolic. Thank You Cathy.

We find no evil in Saxony, it is mythical because the original factory is close. I also saw the head of death, this is the pub of a tattoo artist, but it goes well with the subject I found. Thank you for everything Joel.
